 New barn construction

Hi, I am planning a new barn for this summer's project and you like to get some opinions. I found a site (Menards) that sells kits for pole barns and found a design that looks like it would work well for what I need. It's primary purpose will be equine. We just have two horses but really need a better place for them to get out of the weather. The kit is for a 36' x 45' with 12' high by 12' wide sliding doors on each end. Three stall doors will open directly to the 7 are pasture. I will be building this my self along with the help of my older brother who used to do this for a living. I plan on keeping the floor some type of gravel/sand. What can I expect to pay for the excavation work? It will be built in an open field with a mild slope to it so it would have to built up to avoid water problems. Has anyone built something like this?

 New barn construction

I just went to Menards yesterday and customized the plans as to what I want for a barn. I went with a 40' wide by 45' long with 13 foot walls and a attached 10' deep loafing shed. Two 12'x12' sliding doors (one on each end), 3 split stall doors that will open into the loafing shed. With all the trim and extras the total comes to about 9.5K for the meterials. I would like to hire a dozer to come in and clear part of a tree line to make room for the barn so I plan on having the same guy build up the site a little to avoid water problems. I have not considered what type of base I will be using at this time but I am sure I can use my tractor to spread it around.

I had no idea that you needed to drill the posts to 6 feet! My post hole digger only goes down 4 feet. I will check into the building codes to see what they want.

What will you be using your barn for?
